We have sorted through the leftovers and put most away. There are a lot of shirts left. Some pre-reg shirts,and show shirts that didn't get picked up. We have the addresses of the pre entry shirts that we still have, and will endevor to send them out. .. We pretty much ran out of event shirts on Sat. There were a few bigger sizes left but most were gone.. Our members didnt even get shirts, so we are going to print more.. If you are interested in getting a 39th Nationals shirt let us know. THANK YOU VANNERS!.. THE 39TH NATS. WAS A HUGE SUCCESS. we are still trying to recoup, and get our energy back. Over the next few weeks we will be posting some final info on the NATS and passing along some fun stories of the entire week.

The final count was 614 vans through the gate. The significance of that is for the first time ever, the Nats attendance was larger that the previous time it was in the same state. Also if you average the last 3 years attendance, it was a 30% increase in attendance. not to bad concidering the economy and gas prices. The last time Ohio had the Nats, gas was about $1.75. So way to go Vanners!

And yes, the pig did actually fly... more on that later!!!

This will be the last post till the Nat's. Please remember to bring a food donation for the local food bank. We will have a lot of fun poking fun at the economic times, but there are people far worse off than us and we want to contribute to help them. A non perishable food item will be collected from each entry, for the local food bank. We thank you for this.
We have finalized the pre entries , 289. the vendor area is full, and we will be going to the grounds in a couple days to begin setting things up. We will begin letting Vanners on the grounds on Monday the 11th at 9:00am. Come join us for what promises to be a great time . Keep on Vannin' & LET THE PIGS FLY!!

Its nearly time! We have almost reached 300 pre-entries. Our vendor area is full. Final details are being worked out. News! The drag races have been changed. Not by us, but by the track. There will be a caravan to the track leaving at 4:00 Gate opens at 5pm trials at 5:30 ,and eliminations at 7:30.. We have sent the bibles to the printer and here is the final schedule of events for the Nats.

In the Dust Bowl . If you want to enter your van you must get classified. If you have been judged and classified in previous years, all you need to bring is your Nationals class card as long as you haven't added any body changes. Otherwise you need to bring your van to the dust bowl. Classification closes at noon.

This is the basic schedule. There are more details to come, once you get there. To recap . we will be opening the gates for early arrivals on Monday morning. We CAN NOT let anyone in before then. We will have a staging area for you to park in before that, if you get there Sunday but you'll have to camp in that area only. There are facilities there (water ,Bathrooms) but please don"t come before that expecting to go in and set up camp. We are ready for you and are working hard to make this your best National Truck-in experience yet!

The deadline for pre-registration has passed. We have posted a final list , and the confirmation cards will be mailed this coming Monday. For those of you who didn't make the deadline, you can still enter at the gate. The Nationals will be here before you lnow it. Hope you can make it!

The deadline for pre- entry, bible ads, and trophy sponsorship is here. We are sending out a post card mailer to a lot of vanners for a last minute push to get as many of you as possible, to this years Nats. For those of you who have recieved this mailer you can still pre-register till the 10th of JUNE. That's 1 month before the vans start arriving. We have ended the free t-shirt with pre- entering, but you can still save a little more cash if you get your pre-reg in by the 10th.

There are a lot of things happening you may not be aware of. We will be visited this year by represenatives of HOT ROD and TRUCK'IN magazines. They are showing a renewed interest in vans. A good turnout could further their interest in covering vans and van events. The more vans at the Nats, the more chances we will once again see our favorite vehicles in print.

Some of the activities we have planned include a night at the drag races. Wednesday evening we will have a caravan to National Trail Raceway and drags for the vans has been arranged by Virtual Vanner. On Friday we will have a burn out contest for you motor head types -- always a crowd pleaser. So be prepared to Smoke'em. On Saturday afternoon we are having an activity stolen from the street rodders. The SLOW DRAGS is run just like regular drag races, but the idea is to be the LAST across the line. It's a lot of fun.
We will be posting a copy of the schedule of events soon, so keep a watch.

We also will be running a shuttle around the grounds for transporting Vanners from your camp to the vendor and band areas. The Guernsey County fairgrounds is a large facility.

Walking all that way will be taxing for some of you, so we hope this will help you get around. The shuttle and tractor is being supplied by the Lashley Tractor Sales. They are giving us the use of a tractor for the week, free of charge. Please let them know that you appreciate the guesture, especially if you use it through-out the event. The shuttle is intended for transportation. We will be limiting how long you can stay on the bus, so everyone will have a chance to use it. When you get to where you want to go, hop off and let others ride.

We are having concert style entertainment on Friday & Saturday evenings. This is somthing different than your normal fair, but promises to be intertaining. We will also have the normal line up of music. There will be a band Wednesday evening, and another band on Friday evening. Both playing under the stars (weather permiting). A third band will play Friday evening after the concert, inside, till the wee hours, for you more hearty types.

So stay tuned for more updates. The Nats will be here before we know it!

Spring Back Is now over for another year. It's now the count down to the 39th National Truck-in. Spring Back was a success with over 100 vans attending, even with wet and cold weather.(so whats new!). We are excited about this years Nats. We have a lot of surprises in store for all you vanners. The pre-entries are starting to come at a fever pitch. We are approaching 200 as I write this.
Our objective is to give you the best time you've ever had at a Nationals. Most of the plans have been finalized. the deadline for the event bible is approaching. If your club or business wants to get an ad in the book, now is the time to send it in. We will be updating this blog on a regular basis, right up till the Nats begins, so stay tuned. We've had several inquiries about the size and layout of the grounds so, here are some pictures of the grounds

If you have read the flyer, you saw that we are having the show and shine over 2 days. Friday and Saturday. It has never been done exactly this way before,And I've had a couple questions about how and why.
We are trying it this way to try to make it as equitable and fair for everyone concerned. I'll explain. Over the past 10 years or so, the show has been done both on Friday and the traditional Saturday. A Saturday show has to be run efficiently or, you don't have time to do a through job of judging and determining the winners, in time for a trophy presentation , before the evening activities begin. A recent year, the judging didn't start till noon on Sat. Needless to say ,the presentation was late that year, very late. Some hosts have elected to have the show on Friday.
That makes it very easy on the people running the show, but it leaves a lot to be desired for the people in the show and the spectators. Not to mention ,anyone arriving after Friday morning sees nothing of the show, much less be in it. I have heard a lot of complaining about that over the years.. The van show is the highlight, the crown jewel, if you will, of the truck-in.. Vans, are what makes it a van-in. They should be the centerpiece , the focal point of the event. So.... we decided to split up the show over 2 days. Friday will feature all the street van classes, Ford, Dodge, Chevy, including street minis ,and panels. The street classes comprise approx. half of the vans in the show and are the fullest classes in the show.

The rest of the vans will be judged on Saturday. This divides the show equally into two days giving the judges more time to GET IT RIGHT.As usual classification will be on Thursday ,just as it has been in the past. Any late arrival will get the chance to be judged and /or see ,at least part of the show. We will have the street judges there on sat to judge any late arrival, but only for the guys arriving after Friday noon. If your there before that ,and want to be in the show, you must be judged at your scheduled time. The lanes will close when judging begins.

We will have clearly marked rows for each class and you must be in the proper row to be judged. This will put more responsibility on the individual, but just like in drag racing , if you miss your call to the line , you forfeit. It's all part of the competition. The judging will begin early (9 am) on both days, so it will finish earlier for the judges and avoid at least part of the heat of the day. This also allows everyone to participate in other activities that they would miss if the show ran till 4 o'clock. The Trophy presentation will happen at 6 pm sat afternoon.There will be no Raffles at awards. All game trophy's will be awarded each day, and winners will be announced over the p.a.system, as there will be over 100 of these. We do not want a 3 hour awards ceremony. We have some nice entertainment scheduled, and you don't want to be sitting in awards while all the fun is going on. These rules will be printed both in the bible and on each van's class card so everyone is aware of them. We want the show to be fun for all and the judging to be correct. Hopefully this will help..

FOR THOSE WHO ARE JUDGED ON FRIDAY, AND WANT TO BRING THEIR VAN OUT ON SATURDAY TO SHOW IT, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO SO. THERE WILL BE A SEPERATE AREA FOR THE VANS ALREADY JUDGED SO THEY WONT BE CONFUSED WITH THE VANS BEING JUDGED ON SAT. ALSO, THE BRIGHT & SHINE WILL TAKE PLACE ON FRIDAY EVENING. LINE UP TO BEGIN AROUND 8:30 PM.

Seems there are some of you who are having problems finding info on our blog. Most pertinent info is in the flyer. You'll find the flyer down the page on the left side. If it is to small to read, click on the image and it will expand to full screen. You can also blow it up bigger if you wish. Information not available at the time we printed the flyer, will be added periodically here on the left side in a new post. Questions that we are asked repeatedly will be posted in the FAQ section on the right side of the blog. Vendor, trophy sponsor,bible adds, and contact info is also listed in the right hand column. You can ask questions, make constructive suggestions ,or comments, 2 ways. At the bottom of each post, on the left side there is a place for comments. Click on it and you can leave a question or comment that will be seen by anyone who wishes to read the comment section. We will post an answer or response there also, where everyone will see it. On the right side you will find the Vans On The Run email address. You can send a question or comment there and it will be private. Some one will get a response back as soon as we can. If that dosn't help you can call the phone numbers listed in the flyer and you can reach the pres. V.P., or treasurer and we will be happy to help. As the posts pile up they will expand to multiple pages. You can find the older posts at the bottom by clicking on the "older posts" icon. Even tho we have been working on this for nearly a year, the 39th Nats is not finished and in the can. We are way ahead of where we thought we would be but, are still working on a lot of large and small details and every day someone comes up with a new idea for making this event even more fun. Our members are working hard and enjoying all the preparations. That's how I know this will be a fun event for everyone. I have posted a couple photos of the grounds for those of you who haven't been there yet. These show the grandstand area. We are using the big stage out front, and will have a second stage set up behind the grandstand. There will be a lot of music. the area behind the stands will also have the vendor area. That building in the center of the photo, is one of 3 restroom buildings with showers.

Why are we doing this?

With the new year, we are quickly closing in on the 39th National Truck-in. I've had several people ask, why in the world would a group our size, take on something like the National Truck-in? Well ,that is a real kicker of a question. As you may know Vans On The Run hosted the 16th Nationals in 1988. Shortly there after, we had some people ask if we would do it again, and at least one of our previous members replied" WHEN PIGS FLY".. We are 23 years removed from that event and we figured it was time to do our share again. Vanning has slowly gotten smaller over that period and the number of van clubs and groups willing to take on a task this important to vanning has dwindled to a hand full. There are still many vanners who enjoy the vans and the vanners, but unless some one is willing to put forth the effort to keep it going, there wont be anything for us to do anymore. We have hosted Spring Back,since 1978. Putting on an event each year, has been the catalyst for keeping our club together. Without a common goal, there is no reason to exist. We want vanning to continue and see this as our part to help keep it alive! We want to acknowledge the vanners who have graciously volunteered their help with the 39th Nationals. Three Rivers Vans,of Pittsburg Pa., Tuscarawas Inter valley Truckers,of Dover, Ohio. Mid Ohio Vannels,of Lancaster,Ohio, Central Florida Vans of Orlando,Zephyr Vans of California, and Next Gen Vanners of Oh. The National Truck-in Board, as well as a number of individual vanners , have pitched in to help with man power. W e couldn't pull it off with out them. Actually I am overwhelmed with how many vanners have come to me with offers of assistance. I know that if we need help with something, all I need to do is ask. With this kind of enthusiasm the "Pigs will Fly" for a long time............ Very soon we will be posting a preliminary schedule of activities , so you will be able to see what is planed and to make sure you don't miss out on any of the fun.. till next time. Coop
